Gibling is a community currency founded in 2012 by Stadtwerkstatt Linz. Its aim is to question the prevailing monetary system by introducing an alternative artistic currency. The debate on money systems has currently gained even more attention due to intentions to abandon cash money entirely which would result in financial behaviour being monitored and tracked gaplessly.
 
The Gibling project focuses on such interrelations by testing local autonomy and alternatives practices.
 
The notes are designed by artists addressing the issues of money and autonomy. The  art exhibition “Gibling collects art” satirises economic-ideologic slogans such as “Let your money work” by turning the Gibling itself into an art collector who lets art work instead of money.

Linzer Stadtwerkstatt is an autonomous structure for arts and subculture since 1979. It is the initiator of several projects addressing political dialogue.
