Nichts ist erledigt (eng: Not Yet Over)

Kornelia Kugler, Hanna Bergfors, Nadja Krüger
2016

62 Minutes
Language: Deutsch, Subtitles: English

Ewa wants an abortion. Maria wants artificial insemination. Selma wants to earn money as a surrogate mother. The protagonists eventually encounter one another doing a very different kind of reproductive work, as service staff at the conference. Interspersed in the film are scenes of a pro-life rally, a birth, and a technofeminist speaker preaching the merits of egg freezing and surrogacy.  The film deals with the relationship between the possibilities and limits of reproduction, both technologically and socio-politically. While the film takes place in Germany, it treads on international ground because of its negotiation of motherhood and feminized labor in times of neoliberal uncertainty. Nichts ist erledigt is thus not a lm for or against motherhood, but rather an essay on the conditions of reproduction today. The three protagonists find a collective voice together in the coat room to counter that of the conference speaker and the kind of corporate feminism she represents onstage. While she preaches the cult of “having it all”, she overlooks at whose expense that ‘all’ comes. On the contrary, as our film title proclaims, we think that there is still a lot to be done.

Systrar Productions is a production collective. Systrar means sisters, siblings, friends, and represents our approach to film production. A film is not the creation of one single artist/genius, but rather the collaboration of many. We base this understanding on feminist and collective concepts of filmmaking and on our own experiences of working together. Along these lines, we engage in different projects together, each time negotiating our roles and positions. Under the name of Systrar Productions, we produce films independently and self-organized, and move between the fields of cinema, art, theory, and activism. Our work has been shown in various contexts, festivals, and exhibitions.
