Nour Shantout
The work questions the contemporary concept of labour and working class. The tools and work-gear are transferred into archive material and preserved in a futuristic history museum. The work leaves space to imagine what the future will hold; new possibilities beyond the boundaries of labour as the engine of the neo-liberal society. Visitors are invited to rethink labour from a future perspective beyond homo-economicus.
Nour Shantout studied arts in Damascus and Beirut and graduated at the École de Beaux-Arts of Paris. She currently lives in Vienna and studies at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien. In her work she focuses on social barriers, heritage, counter-memory and counter-history. She questions the different aspects of protection and preservation through concepts of failure.
