The video work Mudiocracy tries to amplify the potential of the monument: something new should grow from the stoic bust. The historic figure, the heros of the past which are building a base for the national and nationalistic narrative are turned upside down and back to the ground. The busts should turn into something for archaeologists who look in the ground for symbols which are not quite understandable any more. You are the dust and to dust you turn. From mud you are and to mud you turn. The mud does not only symbolize the ground, but also a potential healing process. To heal from the wounds the national state as such is constantly producing.
Matej Kaminský was born in Bratislava and mostly works on the line Bratislava – Zagreb. During his studies he spent a semester at the Zagreb Academy of fine Arts at the New Media Department. Now he is a student at Ilona Németh's atelier continuing his studies in Bratislava in intermedia and multimedia. A strong element in his work is the psychology of perception and to get the audience out of everyday reality.
